Virginia receiving more than $14 million in Community Development Block Grant Funding
Governor Kaine announced in the news today that $14 million will be distributed “with approximately 3,790 Virginians [benefiting] from improved housing, wastewater services, job creation and economic revitalization projects.” Most of the money goes towards “creating safe and affordable housing and water for Virginians, [but] there is also important funding for broadband, and economic and downtown revitalization efforts that will help our communities grow and improve the quality of life for their citizens.”
Now I don’t know if this is stimulus money or just regularly budgeted funds, but either way this is great news for the upkeep of critical infrastructure in the Commonwealth.
Having glanced through some of the project descriptions, I was curious to how homes were renovated with the people already in them. I guess everything depends on the amount of work being done to the structure and what kind of repair work. If they had to put somebody up in a hotel, I’d imagine that those kinds of costs would be built into the budget plan.
And if a structure is improved, doesn’t that raise insurance or work in some other way to make the house more expensive? I have the same kind of questions about shows like Pimp My Ride or Extreme Home Makeover.
Anyways, to see the full breakdown of the projects and their descriptions, click the link at the bottom of the page that goes to the original press release.
