This month, Return to Roots brings you news about regional job fair information, events we
think you might be interested in, and exciting updates about the Return to Roots program. We are also
continuing to update and optimize our website, making it more user-friendly
for both businesses and job-seekers.
As of this
past month, we have over 2,000 registrants! These registrants are
visiting Return to Roots from 35 states, including most
predominantly
Virginia,
Tennessee,
North Carolina, and
California. They also represent 13 countries including
Malaysia
,
Philippines
and
Canada
. This month alone, the
Return to Roots website welcomed 788 absolute unique
viewers to the site.
We have 586
registered businesses, and 73 registered jobs. We are contacting job-seekers
each week to see how their search is going, and how we can improve the
website to serve them better. Our
website optimization process is bringing more visitors and registrants to our
website every day.

Position: Physician—Internal Medicine
Employer: Russell County Medical Center
Decription: Russell County Medical Center, a member of the 15-Hospital Mountain States Health Alliance, is seeking quality, board-certified/eligible Internal Medicne Physicians for inpatient/outpatient opportunties in Lebanon, VA.
Position: Programmer Analyst - Mid Level Java Developer
Employer: CGI
Description: The candidate would serve as a Developer in our Southwest Virginia (SWVA) location. The candidate would work on extending product functionality or modifying existing baseline code to improve functionality, fix defects associated with the application and potentially prototype new architectural features. The SWVA developer would also assist the development manager with monitoring quality and mentoring junior developers. Tax applications are built on Oracle's Enterprise Taxation Management product. Java is used for the integration work.

Position: Project Director MATH PAYS Partnership
Employer: Mountain Empire Community College
Description: The Mountain Empire Mathematics Advancement To Heighten Professional Aspirations and Yearly Success (MATH PAYS) Partnership is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Math Science Partnership (MS) program to serve the public school systems of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson Counties and the City of Norton. The grant was developed by Mountain Empire Community College and is being implemented in cooperation with the University of Virginia's College at Wise. The planning grant will initiate a regional initiative to improve student success in mathematics. The Project Director, in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigators, and representatives from the public schools and colleges, will conduct a planning process to identify strategies and benchmarks for: 1) attracting, preparing, and supporting the professional development of K-12 mathematics teachers; 2) enhancing the transition between K-12 mathematics and higher education mathematics through the provision of guidance services, aligning curriculum and assessments, and increasing dual credit enrollment in mathematics; and 3) increasing the number of students completing more mathematics by informing students and their parents regarding incremental progress in achieving college-readiness. |

A new family holiday musical about a disillusioned woman with a lack of holiday spirit and an intruder claiming to be Santa Claus. He's either the "right jolly old elf" himself or truly crazy! See if you can find the true meaning of Christmas (or maybe just come to laugh like a bowlful of jelly!)
Bristol Motor Speedway Presents:
The Autotrader.com Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA will brighten holidays during its 12th season, with more than 1.5 million lights comprising the displays along the four-mile drive-through route. The route includes a chance to drive through legendary Thunder Valley before driving on "The World'sFastest Half-Mile" itself. Visitors to Speedway In Lights will see various motorsports-themed displays, the animated snowman attraction, Santa's Toy Machine, Dinosaur Village complete with an erupting volcano, the cannon shot and the poinsettia wreath.Speedway In Lights boasts more than 200 displays, with another new display ready to become part of this annual holiday tradition. The Twelve Days of Christmas addition features a dozen scenes, each approximately 10 feet tall and nearly 15 feet wide. This exhibit is one of the largest displays at approximately 180 feet long.The largest spectacle along the route features several animated figures from Gatlinburg leading up to the Sea of Illumination presented by Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies exhibit.Subway Christmas Village, located in the infield of BMS, is a popular destination on the drive-through route and features a variety of rides for children who also can visit with Santa, have hot chocolate and roast marshmallows. Several crafts vendors also will be set up in the Village.
The Johnson Controls Ice Rink also returns and gives visitors the chance to show off their skating skills at the only ice rink in the area. Several theme nights throughout the season add to the fun. Skate rentals are available. |
